About Wendy Dumas |
||
Wendy Dumas is a professional mixed-media artist, experienced in mosaic,
assemblage, alternate photography, as well as design and implementation of
gARTens (petite to medium -sized gardens designed around a specific theme, culture, or mood).
Dumas established Windows and Wonders Design Studio in 2007, specializing in custom, personalized works - including the integration of her clients' own photos, memorabilia or choice of theme. An award-winning educator who has experience teaching at every level, from preschool through college, Dumas developed, coordinated and directed many art programs during 15 years of work with Colorado educational institutions. Her accomplishments include partnerships with Smokebrush Center for Arts and Theater, Norwest Bank, Spring Creek Youth Services Center, and the City of Colorado Springs Park and Recreation Department. In 1991, Dumas began teaching 4th grade at Adams Elementary School in Colorado Springs' District 11 - a school that had no art teacher, no art room, no art program, and did not even own a set of paint brushes. It was at Adams Elementary that Dumas developed and coordinated a school-wide "Art on a Cart" program, enlisting sponsors such as Smokebrush, Imagination Celebration and Crayola. In 1994, Dumas was the community coordinator for the Adams Park Mural Painting Project, and two years later, she served as designer and community coordinator for the Marlene Dickey Nature Park Beautification Project. In 1997, Dumas served as the educational site coordinator for the city's Arbor Day Celebration. "Art is a window to the soul," she often told her students throughout her teaching career. "It's a way to let light in, it's a way to let pain out." After a challenging illness, Dumas followed her own advice and turned to the creation of her art as a way of healing. As a life-long resident of Colorado, Dumas enjoys nothing more than sharing the natural beauty of her home state with her extensive family, capturing special moments with her camera and working in her studio. |
